About the week

Introduction

Music Weeks in Sweden aims to spread the joy of choir singing to people over a wide range of geographical and cultural backgrounds. It is a is a non-profit association founded in the summer of 1998. Music Weeks are arranged twice each year at the end of July and over the New Year.

Two choir rehearsals are held daily, each lasting up to 3 hours. Between rehearsals there are further opportunities to sing or play music instrumental together with other participants, or to engage in other activities and outdoor life. Each evening we spend time performing informally to each other, and enjoying an informal party – the “Night Café”. The summer week also offers special activities for children and young teenagers. The Week closes with a concert in a nearby church, and which has taken place in Lund Cathedral over several years at the end of the Summer Week.

Through our Music Weeks we work together towards a common goal in a vibrant musical and social environment. Participants inevitably form strong and lasting bonds of friendship with others also interested in music, both from Sweden and from abroad.

Music Weeks in Sweden is led by an elected board and the Music Director since its beginning in 1998 has been Richard Cooke.
