Rekordkall nyårsvecka i Dala-Järna
Årets nyårsvecka med Music Weeks in Sweden bjöd på rekordkyla mitt i det vintervita Dalarna.
Trots kylan utomhus höll repetitioner, soaréer och nattkaféer de cirka 50 sångarna varma och alerta större delen av tiden.

Ett extra glädjeämne denna vecka var de många nya sångare som var med för första gången i Music Weeks in Sweden. Hjärtligt välkomna tillbaka!
Dala-Järna var vitt och vackert men kylan blev med tiden lite väl rejäl.
Redan på nyårsafton sjönk kvicksilvret ner till 27 grader för att fortsätta dala till bortåt 35 minus på hemresedagen.

Enligt några av de bilburna lär veckan också bli ihågkommen för en vintervecka med ständig ompyssling och uppvärmning av vinterkalla bilar.
Lite förkylningar och krassligheter hör till och liksom andra veckor drabbades några även denna gång. Huvudstyrkan höll sig dock på benen och kunde utanför reptid njuta skid-, spark- och sopsäcksåkning, promenader och bastubad. Också våra engelska gäster gav sig tappert ut både i skidspår och backar trots kylan. Bra jobbat!
Huvudtiden av veckan höll vi oss dock i replokalen och tog oss tappert genom konsert-programmet.

Richard Cooke tvekade länge på Vaughn Williams mässa, som vi ju planerade, men tog till slut beslutet att vänta till sommaren. Vi var helt enkelt runt 10 sångare för lite för att våga ta oss an detta stora a cappella stycke – inte minst med tanke på eventuella förkylningsepidemier. Istället tog vi oss an denna musik, återigen ackompanjerade av allas vår Richard Pearce, lika glad som vanligt bakom tangenterna på pianot.
Mitt i alltihop inföll nyårsafton med sedvanlig rejäl fest. Snöå bruk dukade upp en magnifik nyårsmeny som tillsammans med gott vin, mycket sjungande och sedvanligt glatt humör satte alla i rätt stämning för tolvslaget.
Diktläsning och stilla flöjtmusik ledde oss fram till tolvslaget. Detta år slog klockan långsammare och tyngre slag än vanligt, tycktes det, men till slut blev det i alla fall midnatt med champagne, kramar och ståtligt fyrverkeri. Festen fortsatte länge…
Veckans soaréer, som vanligt stadigt och säkert ledda av Klas Norlén bjöd på många minnesvärda nummer: Christian och Jarls Gluntar, Ungdomsgängets fantastiska sångnummer,
Eds och Phils duett ur Pärlfiskarna, fantastisk flöjtmusik av Svante, Leos sedvanligt kluriga framföranden och så Radiobaletten (som många säkert önskade hade varit just radiobalett).
Programmet under veckan var digert men allt detta och nattkaféer, sightseeing i Dala-Järna och Vansbro, affischering, besök i hemslöjdshopen mmm hann vi med.
När vi efter veckans alla förmiddags- och eftermiddagsrep äntligen stod i Järna kyrka och konserten var igång så var alla riktigt på hugget . Det blev en mycket, mycket bra konsert och både publik, kör och dirigent var nöjda. Vi hoppas få komma tillbaka nästa år, men först väntar sommarvecka i skånska Svalöv. Vi ses vecka 30!

Record Breaking Cold during the New Years Week in Dala-Järna.

The New Years Week of this year with Music Weeks in Sweden offered a record cold in the middle of the winter white lanscape of Dalecarlia.

In spite of the cold outside the rehearsals, the soirées and night cafés kept the 50 singers warm and alert most of the time. An extra matter of joy was the great number of new singers that took part in an arrangement by Music Weeks in Sweden. Welcome back!
The village of Dala-Järna was white and beautiful but the cold did eventually become almost to strong.
As early as New Years Eve the temperature sank down to -27°C only to continue to sink to roughly -35°C on the day of going home.
According to some of the members, arriving by car, the week will be remembered as the one when constant care and warming of winter cold cars were ever present.
Minor colds belong to a week like this and som of us became affected. Most of us kept ourselves upright and were able to enjoy skiing, walks and the beauty of the sauna.
Our english guests defied the cold and went used both the ski tracks and small hills. Well done!
Most of the time we kept inside the rehearsal room and managed bravely to go through the concert programme.

Richard Cook doubted a long time before he decided to postpone ,till the summer, the Mass i g minor by Vaughan Williams, which originally had planned to perform. We were simply at least 10 singers too few do dare to accomplish this large a capella peace. We sang the above songs in stead, again accompanied by Richard Pierce, as happy as ever behind the keys of the piano.
In the middle of everything New Years Eve took place with a great party. Snöå bruk laid the tables with a magnificent meny which together with good wine, a lot of singing and plentiful of merry people put us all into the right mood for the midnight toll.
Recital of poems and music from a flute led us into the New Year. This year the bell seemed to chime more slowly and heavily than usual but in the end there was champagne, hugs and grand fireworks. The party went on ........
The soirées of the week were as usual led by Klas Norlén in a confident manner. They offered many memorable performances.
Christian's and Jarl's Gluntar, Ed's and Phil's duet from the Perl fishers, gorgeous flute music of Svante, Leo's ingenious recitals and not to forget the Radio ballet (a performance some of the audience wished it really had stayed a radio ballet).
The week's programme was quit massive but we managed allt that together with night cafés, sightseeing in the villages Dala-Järna and Vansbro, setting up posters, visits to the handicraft shop and more we were able to squeeze in.
When we, after all the rehearsals in mornings and afternoons, at last stood in the church of Järna and the concert had commenced, all singers were really concentrated upon the task.
It was a really great concert. Both audience, choir and conductor were pleased. We hope we may return next year, but before that next summer week in Svalöv awaits us. See you in week no. 30 this summer!
